Big White: No Worries!

Two days ago, the ski conditions did not invite enough enthusiasm to exit the warmth of the condo to venture to the slopes.....but I was wrong.   Despite the haze and the dark clouds, the thin cover of new fresh light powder covered the already matted down groomed runs with a comfortable cushion to float on during our runs on the blues.  As the day progressed, the visibility improved and in the end, the day of skiing was even more wonderful than the previous ones....Go figure....

Yesterday, my legs were worn, and the fresh snow deposited on the mountain was inviting, but deceptively thick and immovable.  My skies took separate directions tearing my legs apart and leaving me helpless to return the control and fluidity of the previous day's runs.  The day did not get better, the snow piles from skiers and boarders alike created small obstacles that were difficult to navigate or push aside.  Even when the afternoon sun warmed the slopes and our hands and feet, the snow was cruel and persistent in its crunchy quality - leaving us bumping along pretending to enjoy the ride but without the proper shock absorbers to truly relax in comfort.

You cannot predict from day to day how you will ski.  There are too many variables to consider.  You just have to go out mindless and see what happens.  You cannot analyze everything before and you should not even try....here I'm talking to myself.   You have to take a chance, but you have to be prepared for the best or the not so very best.  A surprise awaits in either situation.  The world is just too powerful a force to control, even in your mind.  On those wondrous days of perfect skiing, you can relax and enjoy the ride.  You can stride, you can glide, and you will feel alive.

Today is the last day of skiing, the sun is out, the runs are all groomed, the visibility is perfect and I wonder what the day will bring.  Maybe it will even be worth writing about....stay tuned.
