Just finished reading The Amateur by Ed Klein. This book portrays Barack Obama as an incompetent, inexperienced, self absorbed amateur, arguably the most liberal president ever to serve the USA. He is also portrayed as a thin skinned megalomaniac. The book is well written, entertaining and quick to read. It is the product of hundreds of interviews and one full year of research. Can't deny that the timing of its release comes at the heals of the presidential election in order to influence especially those undecided voters. Added to the already scathing portrayal of Obama in the movie 2016: Obama's America, opponents of Obama have been given an abundance of information to digest, all of it negative. Just a few personal observations from someone who has both seen the movie and read the book.
Clearly the book and the movie lack equipoise - they are clearly and categorically ANTI Obama.
For those who in my circle of friends and family that I have queried for any interest in reading the book, those who are Obama supporters reject my invitation outright, or in defense, ask me if I would be willing to read any critical books on Romney. In most cases, my request seems to generate a visceral reaction, not a friendly debate. Should I conclude that Obama supporters already assume that the contents of the book are lies and distortions, even before anyone opens the front cover? Sadly, I'm sure that the argument could be made in the opposite direction if the book and movie were focused on Romney.
Actually I had a visceral reaction after reading the book and seeing the movie as well. I cannot understand why any human would allow themselves to be subjected to such scorn and ridicule. To be honest, if I were Obama, I would be devastated and destroyed by the contents of both movie and book, even if the both represented only partial truths. Is it really worth being president of the USA?
