It was worth driving 800 miles down the US East Coast from deep in Long Island – Ronkonkoma - to Charleston, South Carolina to catch
the Crystal Symphony cupping the southern border of North America through the Panama Canal. In the end, the drive down to Charleston, the Panama Canal transit,
Cartagena, and Huatulco, Mexico were the highlight spots of the trip. A brief reaction:
New York – drowning in its own sorrows
Charleston – breath of fresh air, charming, historic,
quaint, hot
Key West – natural beauty and paradise to those with money,
and a haven for charlatans and alcoholics for those without
Grand Cayman – another Diamonds International bus stop
Cartagena, Columbia – history and intrigue, beautiful and
sprawling landscape, drug cartels and secret service playground
Panama City – modern, dirty, monkeys and iguanas, banking
Mecca
Huatulco – charming and unspoiled, affordable
Puerto Vallarta – Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club
Cabo San Lucas – tourist trap, the Kona of Mexico
Los Angeles – dreary and dismal – the end of cruise, time
for a snooze…..thank God there will be no more booze....good news for my liver.
