Viet Nam

Unimaginable traffic maze in Ho Chi Minh City, formally Saigon
About five years ago, I worked as a dance host for a Silversea cruise.  It traveled from Singapore to Vietnam, Thailand and Hong Kong.   Sadly I wrote nothing about my experience, and I took no pictures.  As a result, I have only vague memories of the trip.  What I did remember about Viet Nam was:

  • The people were very friendly and didn't hold it against me that I was American; they were still happy to take my money.
  • Everything cost a dollar….everything!!!!!  The Vietnamese people were happy to take our dollars
  • The traffic in Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City was the most treacherous I have observed in all of my travels….streets were filled to capacity with cars and motorcycles, and tuk tuks. Cars flowed across intersections without any order or reason. (Picture pilfered from the internet - PPFI).
  • Motorcycles were a family affair - PPFI

  • Halong Bay is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen - PPFI

Unforgettable majesty of Halong Bay

This fellow in the rickshaw was cool and let me drive his non-motorized tuk tuk.  But he still got his money.  (This picture was taken by the other dance host sharing my the cabin)

I really want to return to Viet Nam……this time I won’t expect everything to sell for one dollar, at least not our American dollar.
